Jacqueline Johnson is a first-year PhD student in the Division of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on race, contemporary television, and digital platforms, with an emphasis on how convergence culture structures new modes of reception for Black viewers. She obtained her MA in Media Studies from The University of Texas at Austin where her master’s thesis project looked at Black reception on Twitter through an analysis of WGN America’s Underground. Her work has also analyzed black feminine subjectivities and celebrity through Serena Williams, and she is currently researching whiteness, postfeminism, and Etsy for an edited collection on sartorial fandom.
